In 1648 Capt Sayle and 70 english puritans were shipwrecked just off Ridley Head Beach on the Devil’s Backbone Reef off the northern tip of the Island they named Eleuthera – Greek for freedom. They found shelter in Preachers Cave just a short distance from the beach. This cave was used as their church for another hundred years as the Eleutheran Adventurers moved inland to settle. Easy to find – drive as far north as you can until you reach the end of the road. Left turn takes you to Spanish Wells – turn right at the rock to go to Preachers Cave location on google map @ www.yolotraveller.com
