We refer to the Atlantic or Caribbean side of Eleuthera for convenience and to indicate the character of the water. We are well aware that Eleuthera is not technically in the Caribbean.

Using such terms as "Atlantic side" and "Caribbean side" simply make it easier to visualize which side of the island we are talking about and what kind of ocean conditions you are likely to encounter.

The "Atlantic side" usually has deeper, rougher water, while the "Caribbean side" is most often shallow and calm.

Each beach description in the book is colour coded dark or light blue to indicate Atlantic side or Caribbean side.

We hope that such designations help you determine which side of the island a particular beach is on.

New in the 2007 edition

We have added a mileage chart that shows the distances between each settlement. We hope you will find it useful.

You will find a copy on the back page of The Elusive Beaches of Eleuthera. We don't claim it is 100% accurate but it is correct to a mile or two. After all there is no point that we know of that is officially designated as the centre of a settlement.

If you click on the magnifying glass icon underneath the image to the right you will go to a full size copy that you can print out if you wish. The resolution will not be very good because the image is optimized for fast display over the Internet.
